Physically, I continue to improve with the side effects of the radiation waning a bit. I can feel the hormone therapy is working. I often run out of gas before the hours of the day run out. I do have an appointment on Thursday with the oncologist in Lexington to set the schedule for the chemotherapy regimen.
I had intended to write just one blog a week and will likely do that at some point. This is Holy Week. The Lord willing, I intend to write a blog each day. I have a heavy heart on this Palm Sunday afternoon, not in any way for what is going on in my life, but for what is going on in the lives of several families in Nashville. I learned at church this morning that there is a connection with someone in Lexington, whose grandson was one of those who was killed. We celebrated waving palm branches. There are some churches, maybe three of them, who will be absent a nine-year-old to wave a palm branch. There will be little celebration in those churches. Some of the funerals for those nine-year-olds were held on Friday and Saturday. What pain there must have been in those families and those churches this morning. One of my granddaughters is nine years old. I have thought about her a lot this week. It could have been her and her school. The terror that must have been in the hearts of those nine-year-olds is beyond our comprehension. I shared with our church in an email that Mike Courtney and Branches have been involved in helping secure the trauma counseling for the Covenant Christian School and the community. What a challenge for Mike and Branches. Please be in prayer for that ministry. And please be in prayer for the generation of teens and 20 somethings. It is a generation in crisis. They are the least involved in church than any generation since the settlers came. They are also the generation that has the highest rate of suicide in the history of our country. Only a fool would be unable to see the correlation. This generation has no absolutes. They have no moral compass. As Jesus said about the crowds in His day, they are like sheep without a shepherd. I have been praying for four young people in this generation by name every day during the last several weeks. I would encourage you engage in the battle through prayer. It is a battle for their very souls.
